I thought it might be a cool idea to list all of the available player-made publicly available server-wide custom channels in here. So far, I know about:
Republic: /ooc (for ooc communication) /lfrp (looking for rp) /rp (IC RP channel) /lfg (OOC LFG channel) /RepNet (Republic Network - IC galaxy-wide audiofrequency for Republic characters)
Empire: /ooc (for ooc communication) /lfg (OOC LFG channel) /ImpNet (Imperial Network - IC galaxy-wide audiofrequency for Empire characters)
If anyone knows of any others, please post them and I'll add them to the list here.

Champions had an IC RP channel that was considered to be a radio frequency, and that worked quite well. Handwaving over the hyperspace issue, I think it could work here too. At the very least for some kind of Smuggler 'CB' network.

I /cjoined RP for tish and giggles and there were a few folks in there. I think folks were randomly /cjoining channels like me just to see what was out there. Nowhere near as active as OOC but figured it's worth a mention. As folks progress in the next few weeks we should see more non-guild factions out there, hopefully not as expanse as SWG's hundreds of channels just to have channels.

Do you know if it has a "theme" Like it's a galaxy-wide comms frequency or something?

I believe it was more of a Looking For channel than anything else. Like I said I think folks were going into it randomly so I'm not sure it's been giving an official purpose yet. When it was active folks were just greeting eachother and making small talk, but it was dead the entire time I played yesterday.

I'd suggest everyone join /lfg so we have a global LFG.

There is actually an "rp" channel Empire-side too, but not a lot goes on there.
Some of us former WoW-ers use "ForTheRepublic" or "ForTheEmpire", possibly simply because it's harder to type.
The only issue currently with having multiple custom chat channels is there seems to be a bug wherein SWTOR "forgets" any custom chat channels past your second, every time you log out. I have to go in and MANUALLY re-connect every time. If you're not aware of that, you may be wondering why "ooc" is so quiet....

I also love the idea of IC channels for specific guilds/groups/etc - and I guess we'd need an EmpNet (NOT RepNet, that makes no sense!) for the Empire side generic "CB" frequency.

Has anyone tested to see if the bug with custom chat channel persistence has been fixed? There was a patch "b" that went out yesterday that looks like it might have dealt with this issue.
Also Raph - please update the first post so it doesn't say "RepNet" for Empire side! I still think that must be a typo.
