Hey all,
How often are you reverse engeneering at the lower levels. Last night I RE'ed everything I made but I am not sure if that will be worth it in the long run. Yeah I got some blues which is great but it has been a big drain economically. since I could have sold all that stuff to vendors and made a bit of cash. Not to mention sending my boys out on investigation missions for the mats to make blues so that I could try to RE into even higher quality. Sadly that did not happen.
Just wondering how others are going about this.

I did it a bit when I started, but then I decided it wasn't that important. I'm not that worried about gear at lower levels, since I'll outlevel it all fairly soon anyway, which means that I don't care too much to work at getting the rare recipes at lower levels. I suspect it's something I'll do at 50.

Yeah that is sort of how I am leaning now. It would be more useful I t hink if you got skill points in it or something but as it stands you can RE anything of anylevel from what i can tell. I think the lower level blues and above will sell well once an economy is established though. Maybe not for a few months though. So long as they are better than quest geear obviously. They would also sell better if BGs were more level defined.

It's a credit sink, no doubt. However, the blues will last you a long time. Even the Green Level 15 Chest will be better then anything you find (outside heroics) until about level 23.
REing to Blues cost nothing, just the mats gathered in the world (Never, Never send companions on Gathering Missions, they are a waste of credits) but I do not RE beyond blues. You simply out level them to fast. But, getting the mats to make one or two blue items for your companions is fairly cheap, and you can RE them when you out level them.
The exception is Armstech and Cybertech. Barrels and Armoring Mods are cheap and easy to make, and can quickly level up your skill. A Purple of either type will last you a good number of levels, and from about 18+ leveling slows down.

Yeah I am armstech and was attempting to get the superior barrels and a purple AC. I got the barrels but not the AC which is fine because I can not imagine it would be much more usefull then the commedation one I bought on courasant. We will see though I am still trying to get one. And yeah after a handful of scavenging missions I realized I was seriously wasting credits.

I RE whatever doesn't sell on the market after two days, which has been a lot because I've been flooding it with color crystals for the starting characters. It bugged me that there were no crystals for sale when I started so my aim was to alleviate at least that small issue. In doing so I get a lot of returned stuff every few days. It saves me some time and credits getting stuff I don't normally grind for or send companions to, like artifacts and whatnot.
On that, this economy is rediculous right now and I hope it stabilizes soon. I'm selling drops for face value, look it up for the hell of it and see the same item for a couple thousand. We're talking low level items.

I'm currently using the default prices, whatever the GTN sets it at I just post it.

Same. As the game gets more established and rares start popping in that's the only time I'll adjust the price. But there's no need for basic items to be above what the GTN defaults them to.
I noticed someone bought a ton of my red crystals, I'm gonna be peeved if I see them buying them just to resell them with a marked up price. If I wanna be greedy I can do that on my own, I'm trying to put a little variety on the market.

I would be willing to bet that is exactly what will happen. Gold farming will start early and people will always be ripe to play the AH metagame.Of course people are good at it now and start it from day one. Oh well I just set a fair price and if it sells I am happy. That said I have RE'ed every single thing I have made not having put anything up for auction...in retrospect not so smart

yeah, putting up purple gear in the 20's was a massive credit maker in the beta, cause it was so much better then even comm gear.

I hate to flex my epeen here but my smug group controlled the economy for basic items in SWG on Starsider. Our pet peeve was overpriced shit on the bazaar. Undercut like a mofo.
