I've been playing MMOs for over a decade, and I have to say. So far, during headstart (I got in late on the first day, the Tuesday), I have been overall very impressed with the community that we have here. Most everyone in /general has seemed to be very helpful and polite and there's been precious little drama or flaming.
Hats off to a great community!

today was the first time I actually got annoyed by community, or more specifically couple of people who decided to turn Nar Shaddaa generally into their approximation of Barrens chat. I'm guessing its a late night phenomena though, becasue during regular hours, its been exceptionally pleasant and I've yet to have a bad group.
still. didn't think my ignore list would get people on it, especially so soon.

People are people no matter where you go. As a general rule I tend to turn off general chat, though I have not had to do so in this game yet. I do notice the slow slip into conversations reguarding everyones mother as the hours grow late. Sadly I think it is to be expected a bit when you have hundreds of people with anonymity. Just dont feed the trolls

I tend to watch general chat because that's where heroic groups form and those can be great for making new friends and such. as I'm leveling on my own and am not an uber leet player capable of soloing heroics all on my lonesome, sometimes even while outleveling them - general chat is necessary evil. and its really not all bad, except it seems for wee hours of the night

General chat ranges from awesome to horrible, depending on who's on, and if they're in between quests and other activities.
I suggest leaving it up so we can spot potential rpers (or other cool, rp-tolerant people) and point them to this site and the OOC channel.

Tabs with General muted and a main tab with it left on. It's absolutely vital to the preservation of my sanity in some zones.
But other than that, we seem to be pretty damned awesome.

I tried a few servers in early access. I originally wanted an RP-PvP server but just couldn't stand the community.
Ebon Hawk seems WAY better. There are still trolls but not nearly as bad. That said, I've largely kept to myself and been leveling a few chars trying to fig out what to make my main.
I can't wait to make some new awesome friends and start RPing with everyone!

So far, my initial assessment of this community stands. I really like the people on EH. General chat ranges from people parodying greespeak to heated flame wars about whether Ashley is hotter than Miranda, but.. that's general.
Everyone that I've spoken to, or grouped with, or interacted with on a more personal nature has been very fun.

Your understanding of the word-language forms has not yet achieved purple parallel, I see.
